Seeking God in Work

working in garden

In all things God may be glorified.
Rule of St. Benedict, Chapter 57

One part of the labor of a monastery is dedicated to caring for the needs of the community and the monastic environment itself. Cooking, cleaning, tending the sick, gardening, sewing, working in the office belong to the daily schedule. These are ways in which we serve each other directly.

Every year we welcome many retreatants and guests to our monastery as well as visitors to our Catholic Gift & Book Shop. Extending hospitality and serving those seeking solitude and renewal of life include various tasks for each Sister. Above all we welcome in all guests Christ as Saint Benedict teaches us in his Rule (RB 53.3).

Each member also contributes through her work to the livelihood of the monastery.

We are blessed with a group of volunteers who generously assist us at Saint Emma.
